

On July 9th, 2026, the 2nd General Meeting of the AEOLUS project (AI‑driven Efficient Object Detection for Low‑power Unmanned Surveillance) took place at European University Cyprus with great success. The AEOLUS project received €150,000 of funding by the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF) under the PhD in Industry call (PHD IN INDUSTRY/1123/0145) and is coordinated by the R&D company CyRIC, with the participation of the Aristarchus Research Center of European University Cyprus.
The AEOLUS project aims to deliver a balanced solution to the trade‑off between performance and inference speed by developing lightweight yet powerful object‑detection models for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). These models are designed to overcome the limitations of current imaging technologies, which are constrained by cost, operational conditions, technological barriers, and computational requirements.
During the meeting, the consortium reviewed the progress achieved so far and discussed the next phase of project activities. Discussions focused on key milestones, ongoing research efforts, dissemination actions, and upcoming development objectives.
As the project continues to advance, the meeting highlighted how initial ideas and concepts are gradually being transformed into tangible research outcomes through close collaboration and knowledge exchange. Beyond the technical achievements to date, the discussions emphasized the importance of communication, trust, and a shared vision in driving successful innovation.
The AEOLUS team looks forward to building on the foundations built and progress achieved so far and advancing the project’s research and development goals.
