Great Success of 2nd Cyprus Workshop on Scientific Applications of Computing

On the 27th of October 2015 the 2nd Workshop on Computing: ‘Scientific Applications of Computing took placed at European University Cyprus (EUC) with great success.

The workshop was organized by the Astrophysics and High Performance Computing (AHPC) research group of theDepartment of Computer Science and Engineering of EUC. The workshop successfully provided a forum for discussion on cutting-edge scientific problems in the Physical Sciences, Health Sciences, Biology, Medical Imaging and Engineering, attracting interest from almost all Cyprus research institutions (University of Cyprus, Open University of Cyprus, Frederic University, Cyprus Institute, European University Cyprus), as well as from professionals from industry.

A wide variety of interesting talks were presented, including topics ranging from indoor navigation applications, to algorithms that could predict the future. Also presented were the latest developments in software that can handle, simulate and model medical diagnostic images, in addition to work done on simulations of matter in the quantum scales, large-scale distance queries, as well as modelling techniques used to understand the physical processes of luminous galaxies. In addition to the presentations, a Python training session was also conducted, receiving praise from participants. Most importantly, we were pleased to see that the Workshop provided the platform for initialising further synergies between the participating researchers.

The presentations are now available for download from the workshop website , as well as the Python session’s examples, exercises and solutions.
